UK businesses see highest level of ransomware attacks

The UK reached its highest level of ransomware attacks in 2022 according to figures available from the Information Commission’s Office – at 34% of all reported cybercrime.

Criminals compromised data on potentially more than 5.3 million people from over 700 organisations according to the Data security incident trends report released by the ICO, covering the period up to Q3 2023.

UK Advertising Industry sets up AI Taskforce

The UK Advertising Association has set up a new AI taskforce which it hopes will map both the opportunities and risks which the technology poses for the industry.

Meeting for the first time on September 26th, the intention behind the AI taskforce is to build a coordinated policy approach in recognition of the rapid need to establish ethical safeguards, as well as develop industry guidelines.

The rise in cyber attacks could make them uninsurable according to the head of one of Europe’s biggest insurance companies Zurich.

Mario Greco, CEO at the Swiss-based company, told the Financial Times that cyber attacks, rather than natural disasters, would become uninsurable if the disruption from hacks continues to rise.

Why reCAPTCHA isn’t a failsafe against all click fraud

Google’s reCAPTCHA is hailed as a simple solution against bots, spam and other internet abuse but it’s not a failsafe. It can easily be defeated.

Bad bots continue to consume resources and overwhelm organisations, accounting for at least a quarter of all internet traffic and disrupting processes.
