Beacon Upgrade August 2020

We are proud of this latest release of Beacon; version 5.3 for those who are keeping count. There are four main feature upgrades in the app and a further three beta improvements affecting bot mitigation and journey processing.

App Upgrades

Find out more about your visitors with maps and browser data.

maps and browser data

We have introduced geo heat maps to the dashboard, and also added this to campaigns, channels and individual links alongside summary browser data for your visitors, to allow you to get a better understanding of where your campaign visitors are coming from and how they are browsing your website. On individual visits you’ll now also see the specific device information for each visitor.

Coming up in future versions, where the information is available, we will also share specifically what organisation your visitors are coming from – invaluable for lead generation!

Better View of Currently Active Campaigns on the Dashboard

Visual graphs for each currently active campaign on the dashboard.

We listened to your feedback and have added back in the visual graphs for each currently active campaign on the dashboard. In addition to this, you can also switch to a wider tabular view showing all key metrics for each campaign. We will continue to improve this area in future releases.

Understand Better How your Campaign Pages are Performing

learn more about how your campaign landing pages are performing

You can now learn more about how your campaign landing pages are performing as we have added the Google lighthouse score to each page details. The lighthouse score reports on the performance of a page on both mobile and desktop devices, and provides suggestions on how that page may be improved. This is important for your campaigns, as slow pages are penalised by Google in search ranking and can impact on the likelihood of your ads being approved, shown and the price you pay for each click on those ads.

Invalid Traffic Reports Now Available

We have now released the first Invalid Traffic Reports directly available from within the platform. You will need to have imported ad spend data from the ad networks as explained here prior to running an invalid traffic report which is currently done on a link by link (ad by ad) basis. We have big plans for this functionality; talk to us about what you would like to see and if you’d like to know more about how to use these reports, please get in touch.

Journey Processing & Bot Blocking Beta Features

Bot Blocking
We are now testing bot blocking with a few of our clients. This feature will prevent previously identified bots from revisiting your site, helping you reduce the impact of bots on your campaign spend.

Dynamic Campaign Generation
Short links are very valuable in many circumstances, but if you have hundreds of campaign links to create they can add unnecessary administration to campaign set-up, or if you are using dynamic tags in Google or Facebook ads, they can just be unworkable. With this release, we are now beta testing our dynamic campaign generation whereby you can continue to use your existing ad tagging infrastructure and simply add one simple “bcndyn” tag to your link template. Beacon will then understand your campaign & channel structure and recreate it in the app, without you needing to do anything, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the success of your campaigns with much less effort.

Reverse Journey Look-up
In very early stages, but an exciting development, this will solve two challenges with tracking journeys that our customers have asked our help with. The first challenge is tracking a single visitor journey across two or more sites – for example from a landing website to your main website, or from your mail website to a third-party controlled applicant tracking system. The second challenge is how to track on a third-party controlled system that doesn’t honour query string parameters. Solving these challenges will add a substantial dimension to your campaign knowledge.

We intend to roll out all these features to all Beacon users in a future release, but in the meantime, please contact us if you’d like to be involved with any of this beta functionality.
